What do you do if you need to move but your pet is sleeping on you?

Your Pet is sleeping on you?

My cat loves sleeping on me but she sleeps a lot and I don’t want to move her because I don’t want to make her think that I’m mad at her or annoy her. Like right now my spine is burning but she’s in such a peaceful and deep sleep and I don’t want to ruin that. Please help she sleeps for hours and I think my back will break!

Suggestion No. 1:

What I sometimes do is like, shift position a little and "accidentally" jostle them, which usually annoys them and causes them to leave on their own. Oh, the silliness we go through for our pets haha

Suggestion No. 2:

I start by putting them and telling them that I have to get up. They inevitably won't comply, so I'll slowly move and let them leave themselves. Rest assured, getting up when I need to has not dissuaded them from sleeping on me

Suggestion No. 3:

Moving a sleeping cat is a clear violation of Cat Law. You must weigh the benefits and risks of such an infraction and decide for yourself if it's worth it. Just be ready to accept the consequences of your decision.

Suggestion No. 4:

Sometimes my cat will visit me while I’m sitting on the toilet. She will come up on my lap and sit there giving head butts to my knee. It’s like, one of the only times and places she does it (she’s a French Canadian street cat so the sass and independence is STRONG). I give her some really good scritchies but eventually my ass becomes numb. I just have to push down all my human instincts and emotions and readjust myself so she voluntarily hops off.

Suggestion No. 5:

I have nerve pain and this is such a hard task! I end up moving over time til the pain is too much to stay in that position any longer, and slowly try to move him and skunk my leg around trying to cause the least disturbance

Suggestion No. 6:

I’ve got a cat that sleeps on my hip, a cat that sleeps on my feet and a dog that sleeps close to my back. When I need to move I say “I’m flipping, I’m flipping.” And I move or flip over. They all know what it means and either get up until I flip or just flip when I flip. Then we all settle back down till I have to flip again. They learned this routine pretty quickly.

Suggestion No. 7:

I text my husband and son a picture of the cat(s) sleeping on me and they know that means I need them to do something for me! lol I always say they’re laying on me and this never happens as though it’s a rare occurrence but we all know they do this with me daily. I just adore them so much!!

Suggestion No. 8:

I taught our cats that before they can leave my lap, they have to give me a kiss. I kiss their little nose and they can get up. It’s turned into them shoving their faces into mine when they want to get up. But also I’ll give them a kiss they just go, “ok guess I gotta go.” Even if I just kiss the top of their heads lol. If they really want to stay, they’ll jump right back up, but it’s a good go to when I want to get up as well.

Suggestion No. 9:

I gently move them and sometimes they'll still sleep and not notice, sometimes they'll just get up and ask for pets and then walk away. I have cats and cats don't really mind being moved too much as long as you're not scolding them, being mean or holding them for too long/moving them in a weird or wrong way. They will just find another place to sleep usually or go do something. If it was a dog I would just gently move out of the way while petting them. I don't have any other pet advice as I've only had experience with dogs and cats and a few times a bearded dragon. They don't really care all that much though because they only think about exploring, being warm and eating lol
